Dear Friends of Father Bill,

We would like to share a story with you about Father Bill.  When most of us think of Father Bill, we recollect his many activities in the pro-life arena (e.g., celebrating Mass at Planned Parenthood every week for over 21 years, frequently traveling to Denver to testify before the State legislature with pro-life arguments, and being director of the Diocese Respect Life Office.)  He loved the youth and always supported them in so many ways – such as organizing trips to the Annual March for Life in Washington DC, and the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis.  But he also encouraged and supported the youth in many little ways.  Below is a story about one of those “little ways”.

 Last summer, the St. Patrick Young Adult Group had a retreat at the Crags campground just south of Divide Colorado, about 1.5 hours west of Colorado Springs.  Our granddaughter participated in this retreat.  They needed a priest to celebrate Mass there, and it just so happened that every priest that they contacted had other serious commitments.  When they contacted Father Bill he gladly agreed!  He was a bit delayed in departing on the trip to the Crags because of other commitments. This campground is not very easy to find, and it requires driving on a very narrow, rough dirt road with cliffs.  Father Bill got lost, and he could not reach the young adult group via phone because of poor coverage.  But he persistently and reliably kept trying until he finally found them.  He celebrated Mass for them at 9:00 p.m. by campfire light (original planned Mass was at 6:00 p.m.).  See the attached photo that shows the young adults eagerly waiting by the campfire for Father Bill to arrive.

In honor and memory of Father Bill and his self-giving love to each of us and our community, would you consider making a donation at the “Father Bill Carmody Walk for Life Memorial Team”? Any donation amount is greatly appreciated!  If you have already contributed to the 2016 Walk for Life - thank you and we hope that you enjoyed the story!

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle;
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
